BANK 159 INFORMATION
159 is a secure UK phone number that connects you directly to your bank if you think you have been contacted by a scammer.
It is designed to be used when you receive a suspicious call about a financial matter, and by calling 159, you can hang up on the fraudster and speak to your genuine bank to verify the situation.
This number can't be faked by fraudsters and is supported by most UK banks, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, and Nationwide.
People are being urged to call 159 if they encounter the following:
Someone contacts you claiming to be from your bank – even if they do not seem suspicious. You are contacted by someone claiming to be an authority figure (such as the police) and told to transfer money – even if the request seems genuine. You receive a call about a financial matter and it appears suspicious.
If you’ve been the victim of a scam, fraud or online crime (cybercrime) you can report it to Action Fraud: Online website Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm). Action Fraud is the national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime. It collects reports about fraud on behalf of the police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. For fraud in Scotland please report it directly to Police Scotland.
